A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR PHILOMINA AND HER FAMILY

This holiday season, as we gather with loved ones, think of families like Philomina’s, who are striving to build a better life for their children in a new country. Your gift today provides the essential, affordable groceries that make their journey possible.

Philomina moved to Vancouver from Ghana in 2023 so her husband could study and give their two children ‘a better life’. They welcomed their third child last year.

Like many families new to Canada, they struggled with the high cost of living, particularly food costs. Although she was a college tutor and PhD candidate in Ghana, she couldn’t find a job here and often felt lonely when her husband and kids were out all day.

Thankfully, Philomina was referred to  Quest by her midwife, and it has been a ‘game-changer’ for her family. She now buys most of their groceries from Quest, stocking up on fresh produce, cheese, eggs, milk, and lots of bread!

She also relies on Quest for crucial items like baby clothes, diapers, and over-the-counter medicines. But Quest provides more than affordable food; our markets have become a source of community, helping the family feel connected in a new country. Philomina was particularly touched by one staff member who always blows bubbles for her children – they love it!

The family now has a new tradition. They visit Quest’s Burnaby market every Friday to purchase their grocery essentials, and Philomina gives her children $5 each to buy toys or art supplies as well. A small joy made possible by your gift of affordable food and the dignity of choice.

This holiday season, you can provide the affordable groceries, dignity, and community that empower families like Philomina’s to thrive.

Your gift today will ensure that next Friday, Philomina can still stock up on fresh essentials and share a moment of joy with her kids at Quest’s non-profit market.
